"First will be assault rifles," he snarled, "and then you will graduate to RPG's and IED's."

The general's face softened as he added, "And if you boys finish early, you can have recess."

 

"먼저 돌격소총이 될 겁니다. 그 다음엔 RPG와 IED로 갈 겁니다."

장군은 "그리고 너희들이 일찍 끝내면 쉬는 시간을 가질 수 있다"고 덧붙이자 얼굴이 부드러워졌다.

 

 

It was weird, looking back at my graduation photos, knowing all the faces smiling back at me were now dead.

Blocking the sports hall's doors was probably unwise in hindsight, but no one could've foreseen the pyrotechnics I'd snuck in going quite so spectacularly wrong.

 

졸업 사진을 다시 보니 나에게 미소 짓던 얼굴들이 이제 모두 죽어 있다는 사실이 이상했다.

돌이켜보면 스포츠 홀의 문을 막는 것은 아마도 현명하지 못한 일이었을 것입니다. 그러나 내가 슬쩍 숨겨둔 불꽃놀이가 그렇게 극적으로 잘못될 것이라고는 아무도 예상하지 못했을 것입니다.

 

 

“They never want to leave!” she joked as she coaxed the crying boy off the slide, the other parents chuckling sympathetically.

He wasn’t old enough to speak, but he was old enough to know that this was not his mother.

 

“그들은 절대 떠나고 싶어하지 않아요!” 그녀는 울고 있는 소년을 미끄럼틀에서 끌어내리면서 농담을 했고, 다른 부모들은 동정적으로 낄낄거렸다.

그는 말할 수 있는 나이는 아니었지만, 이 사람이 그의 어머니가 아니라는 것을 알 수 있을 만큼의 나이였습니다.

 

 

"Why are you doing this to me!?" I demanded of my captors as one of them raised an ice pick over my eye.

As the thing incoherently babbled, she said, "I'm sorry John," before plunging the crude metal deep into the zombie's skull.

 

"나한테 왜 이러는 거야!?" 나는 납치범들 중 한 명이 내 눈 위에 얼음 송곳을 들어올리자 그들에게 요구했습니다.

"When I was a kid, they had actual humans performing surgeries and not laser-wielding robots."

"Of course, we had humans for cops, troops and spouses too," Hector laughed quietly as his wife rolled into the room and glared at him with her angry red eyes.

 

"제가 어렸을 때는 레이저를 휘두르는 로봇이 아닌 실제 사람이 수술을 집도했습니다."

"물론 우리에겐 경찰, 군인, 배우자를 위한 인간도 있었습니다." 그의 아내가 방으로 굴러들어와 화가 난 붉은 눈으로 그를 노려보자 헥터는 조용히 웃었습니다.
