I used to think no secret was worse to keep than all of my monthly transformations underneath the full moon.

Until the month I changed back too early and was bitten by a vampire as I lay sleeping and vulnerable.

 

매달 보름달 아래에서 변신하는 것보다 더 지키기 힘든 비밀은 없다고 생각했지.

그러던 어느 날 너무 일찍 변신해 잠을 자다가 뱀파이어에게 물려 약해지기 전까지는.

 

 

"Be careful on the stairs!" I heard mommy say while she spoke to grandma on the phone about how excited she was for the new baby growing in her tummy.

"I will!" I promised, carefully lining up my little plastic toy cars along the top step.

 

"계단 조심해!" 엄마는 뱃속에서 자라는 아기가 얼마나 반가운지 할머니와 전화로 이야기하면서 내게 말했다.

"그럴게요!" 그렇게 말하며 나는 작은 플라스틱 장난감 자동차를 조심스럽게 계단 위에 늘어놓았다.

 

 

We all talked about how the sun we be out the longest for the summer solstice.

The TV crackled as a news broadcaster spoke, “It has been a whole week since the sun rose on the Summer Solstice, scientist are still trying to figure out why it hasn’t set.”

 

우리 모두는 하지에 가장 오랫동안 해를 볼 수 있는 방법에 대해 이야기했다.

TV에선 "하지에 해가 뜬 지 일주일이 지났는데 과학자들은 아직도 해가 지지 않는 이유를 알아내려고 애쓰고 있습니다”라는 뉴스가 왕왕대며 나오고 있었다.

 

 

As I filled my glass of water at the sink, my mind wandered to memories of hiking with my friends.

As I lifted the glass to take a sip, I wondered if that rabbit I killed was why my throat trembled.

 

싱크대에서 물잔에 물을 채우며 친구들과 함께 하이킹을 했던 추억이 떠올랐다.

한 모금 마시려고 잔을 들었을 때, 내가 죽인 토끼 때문에 목이 떨린 건 아닐까 하는 생각이 들었다.

 

 

I just went to a dermatologist about this horrible acne on my back.

But he says it looks like a hornet nest.

 

등에 생긴 끔찍한 여드름 때문에 피부과에 갔다.

그런데 말벌집인 것 같다고 하더군.
