My therapist tells me that before I can heal, I need to accept responsibility for the for the crash that killed my husband and daughter, and to let go of my false dream of a perfect life with them.

These days I just agree, because the sooner I get out of the institution, the sooner I can begin repairing the device my alter used to swap our realities in the first place.

 

내 치료사는 내가 치유되기 전에 남편과 딸을 죽인 사고에 대한 책임을 받아들이고, 그들과의 완벽한 삶에 대한 나의 거짓 꿈을 놓아야 한다고 말한다. 

요즘 나는 그냥 동의한다. 왜냐하면 내가 기관에서 빨리 나갈수록, 애초에 우리의 현실을 바꾸기 위해 사용했던 장치의 수리에 더 빨리 착수할 수 있기 때문이다.

 

 

My prayers were answered when my ransom was finally paid , with my captors promising to send me home “with a beautiful necklace, shining bright.”

When the soaking black tire was hung from my neck, the smell of petrol filling my nostrils, I saw my visions of home vanish into flame as my eyes began to melt.

It was such a long trip that when we stopped for lunch, I didn’t complain about my wife resting her feet on the dashboard while she napped.

I screamed in horror as I came back from the bathroom in time to see the out of control SUV slam into our vehicle from behind and shove it into the cement pillar in front, deploying the airbags.

 

여행이 길어져 우리가 점심을 먹으러 멈췄을 때, 나는 아내가 낮잠을 자는 동안 대시보드에 발을 올려놓는 것에 대해 불평하지 않았다. 

내가 화장실에서 돌아왔을 때 통제 불능의 SUV가 우리 차량을 뒤에서 들이받아 시멘트 기둥에 쑤셔 넣으며 에어백이 터지는 것을 보았고 공포에 질려 비명을 질렀다. 

 

 

“You’re having twin girls” said the doctor happily

But when I looked at my husband’s face I knew I was gonna have another miscarriage later that night

 

"쌍둥이 여아 군요.” 의사가 행복하게 말했다.

하지만 남편의 얼굴을 보았을 때 나는 그날 늦은 밤 또다시 유산할 것이라는 것을 알았다.
