I stood in line at the coffee shop, the first time I'd been able to face the public in years.

I looked over my shoulder and went dead still as I saw that man holding a little boy's hand, calling him the name he used to call me.

 

나는 몇 년 만에 처음으로 공공장소에 나설 수 있게 되어 커피숍에 줄을 섰다.

나는 어깨 너머로 바라보다가 그 남자가 어린 소년의 손을 잡고 나를 부르던 이름으로 부르는 것을 보고 굳어버렸다.

Getting up, she carried the plate back to the kitchen, disturbing the hundreds of flies from their meal of the half rotting corpse sitting in the lazyboy.

 

아 여보, 오늘 아침에는 계란에 손도 대지 않았네요, 의사가 당신이 기운을 보전해야 한다고 하더군요!

일어나서 그녀는 접시를 부엌으로 다시 가져갔고, 리클라이너에 앉아 반쯤 썩어가는 시체를 먹고 있던 수백 마리의 파리들이 날아올랐다.

 

 

I opened the doors on the abandoned refrigerated truck only to find what had to be hundreds of naked human bodies bound and stacked like slabs of meat from floor to ceiling.

Coming from somewhere buried deep inside I could hear the faint muffled sound of someone crying.

 

버려진 냉동 트럭의 문을 열었을 때 수백 구의 벌거벗은 인간 시체가 바닥에서 천장까지 고기 덩어리처럼 묶여 쌓여 있는 것을 발견했다.

깊은 곳 어딘가에서 누군가 우는 듯한 희미한 숨소리가 들려왔다.
